Welcome to Strand GI Associates & Endoscopy Center


Strand GI’s goal is to provide patients with the quality services and cost-efficient healthcare in a comfortable and safe environment. We support safe patient care by using a collaborative team approach between the patient, the patient’s family, physicians and staff. Our team of Gastroenterologists offers years of experience in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal diseases and disorders. Our physicians and staff are committed to creating an atmosphere of compassion and understanding with minimal stress and anxiety.

Strand GI is located in the city limits of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and serves the adult and geriatric patient populations of Horry County and its surrounding areas. Strand Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center is an Ambulatory Endoscopy Center of three (3) Procedure Rooms.

The center staff provides quality, conscientious, cost-effective and competent care to our patient populations served while maintaining professional standards and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Strand GI provides a range of services, including: Diagnostic, upper endoscopy (EGD), flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy, endoscopic biopsy, cytology, electrocoagulation, sclerotherapy, removal of foreign bodies, tattoo, clipping, banding, dilations, Polypectomy, small bowel pillcam, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) & Endoscopic Gastrostomy tube Placement (Peg).

The center was opened in November of 2001 by some of the current physician owners and has been serving the area for more than 40 years. The center is currently owned by six Gastroenterologists; Timothy Cornnell, MD, Gary Vukov, MD, Andrew Pearson, MD, Kathleen Raynor, MD, and John Edmison, MD & Jose C. Hernandez, MD.

We are SC state licensed, Medicare Certified, ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognized and AAAHC Accredited Endoscopy Center. In 2009, The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), a leading gastrointestinal medical society, recognized our facility as part of its program specifically dedicated to promoting quality in endoscopy. Strand Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Inc. is one of the 431 nationally recognized endoscopy units since 2009. Strand Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Inc. is one of 5 recognized statewide. The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors endoscopy units that follow the ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscopy reprocessing and CDC infection control guidelines and have completed specialized training on principal in quality and safety in endoscopy. ASGE is the profession’s leader in setting standards of excellence in endoscopy through its safety guidelines and the training of its members so that patients receive the best and safest care possible. To successfully complete the program and receive a Certificate of recognition, a center must first show proof of successful and current accreditation by a recognized accrediting body AAAHC. The AAAHC accreditation is a symbol that an organization is committed to providing high-quality care and has demonstrated that commitment by measuring up to nationally-recognized standards of the AAAHC.


Highly Qualified Physicians


You are in the best of care with our physicians who are all board certified gastroenterologists. As board-certified gastroenterologists, all of our physicians have extensive training. After medical school they completed internal medicine training, followed by an additional two to three years of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. Our physicians focus on diagnosing and treating diseases of the digestive tract, including the esophagus, stomach, liver and intestines. Each of our physicians performs over 1,200 procedures each year and over 6,000 cases are performed annually at our facility.
